What the City Leaves Behind.
Mumbai is a city we inherit before we understand it. It raises us, sustains us, exhausts us, and quietly absorbs what we discard.
This photographic series explores the city as a lived experience through what remains after daily life moves on.
Instead of focusing on people, architecture, or recognisable landmarks, the work turns its attention to objects found along Mumbai's shores and transitional spaces: plastic, fabric, rope, fragments of machinery, and other remnants embedded in the sand. These elements exist at the threshold between the urban and the natural, where the city's habits meet the sea.
The images are intentionally edited and abstracted to disrupt immediate recognition. At first glance, they resemble expansive landscapes, organic forms, or distant celestial bodies. Only with sustained looking does their true nature reveal itself. This visual tension mirrors Mumbai itself a city of immense beauty and resilience that simultaneously carries the enighonoe and neged consumption.

The project asks: What does the city leave behind as it moves forward? And further, what future is being shaped through these silent accumulations?

Mumbai's relationship with the sea is deeply intimate yet deeply conflicted.
The sea has long been a source of livelihood, protection, and identity, yet it has also become a repository for the city's excess. By isolating discarded materials within textured, almost painterly surfaces, the work removes them from their original context and reframes them as future artefacts speculative evidence of how our generation lived.
Rather than functioning as direct documentation or explicit activism, the photographs operate through suggestion and pause. They invite viewers to reflect on their own participation in the urban cycle of consumption and disposal.
Garbage here is presented not as shock or spectacle, but as quiet residue: persistent, unavoidable, and deeply human.
This body of work positions the city as a living archive, and these images as fragments of its memory asking what we choose to see, and what we choose to leave behind.
